  • Patients Services Improve with Electronic Prescriptions

Posted on March 24th, 2011 Joy No comments

E-prescribing will make the process of prescribing and picking up medicine much more simple and efficient, that is, in offices where it hasn’t already done so. The script will be sent electronically to the pharmacy where the patient can go immediately after his or her appointment and this will save them time and effort. This makes the practice of writing out the prescription and sending it off with the patient to then drop off at the pharmacy a potential thing of the past.

The consumer will simply go from the doctor’s office to the receiving pharmacy , which should save them a great deal of trouble and time. And this is particularly helpful when the patient is actively sick and just wanting to go home and go to bed.

This is just one of the ways in which new electronic health record software is changing the dynamics at medical offices as well as the efficiency in some of their services. The software, which was primarily developed as a more economical and efficient data storage and retrieval system includes options for billing as well as patient scheduling and face sheet documentation. The prescription services are one of the major ways in which patients are realizing the tremendous benefits the software is offering them.

  • What Do Dental Assistants Do?

Posted on March 20th, 2011 Joy 1 comment

Virtually anyone who has ever walked into a dentist’s office has encountered a dental assistant. This professional should not be confused with that of a dental hygienist. Hygienists usually undergo more extensive training and are able to employ their expertise at a higher level. Dental assistants, however, are trained to assist dentists in a number of administrative and treatment scenarios. In general, dental assistants work in the front office and behind the scenes and assist the dentist with procedures, rather than directly treating patients.

In some states, dental assistants can get by with on the job training, but more and more states are instituting licensing or certification for these positions. This requires that individuals attend dental assistant school and meet other licensing requirements. It is important that anyone considering this career familiarize themselves with the requirements of their state.

Common tasks that are handled by dental assistants include administrative jobs such as setting appointments, handling insurance forms, patient billing and maintaining patient charts. Behind the scenes they may be called upon to expose and process x-rays , sterilize equipment and prepare instrument trays. They may be responsible for preparing patients for exams, including taking blood pressure and conducting oral inspections. They are also expected to be able to assist the dentist directly by handing off instruments or holding suction devices during procedures. They may also take impressions or even fabricate provisional crowns.

  • Better Sleep with CPAP Machines

The importance of sleep for adults is only beginning to be fully understood. For generations, humans rose with the sun and spent most of the hours of darkness asleep. It is only in recent eras that the ability to light the night has changed human sleep patterns — and then only in developed countries with access to electricity and other forms of energy. The ability to stay up all night has led to increasing instances of sleep deprivation in industrialized nations. And now that scientists have begun to study sleep and its effects on the human brain and body, the existence of actual sleep disorders has come to light.

Out of all the sleep disorders identified in recent years, sleep apnea has captured media and popular attention. This is partly due to the number of people being diagnosed with the condition. Most people seem to know someone in their family or circle of friends who exhibits the symptoms of sleep apnea. The other reason that sleep apnea gets so much attention is that it is easily treatable.

Patients need to be sure to get an accurate diagnosis if they experience any form of regular sleep disturbance. The preferred treatment for sleep apnea, a CPAP machine, requires a doctor’s prescription. Before patients can buy cpap equipment, they need to be instructed by their physician on the proper use and care of the machines. They will also be given a list of the specific supplies and accessories they need to purchase. Once those are acquired, the symptoms should disappear fairly quickly. The proper use of a CPAP machine on a consistent basis will result in better, more restorative sleep.

  • Why Visitors Need Insurance

Posted on February 10th, 2011 Joy No comments

People like to believe they are invincible or that bad things only happen to other people. This is especially true when they are faced with an exciting trip to an exotic country. They think about all the amazing sights and adventures they will have and give little thought to the risks associated with international travel. They think that visitors insurance is something they can afford to skip, since nothing will happen to them. This is a major mistake.

While the reality is that many people will have accident and illness free visits abroad, others will require medical treatment during their trip. They may be injured during recreational activities or catch a foreign virus or parasite that requires treatment. They may even be involved in mundane accidents like those that could happen at home. When those happen, they need to be assured that they have the access to medical treatment that only insurance can guarantee. There is nothing scarier than the thought of being denied necessary medical treatment in a foreign country. Being sick or injured and not even able to speak the language in order to plead for assistance is truly a nightmare.

The simple act of securing a visitor medical policy can eliminate the chance of that nightmare becoming a reality. The peace of mind provided is worth a considerable amount of money. And, should the worst happen, the treatment provided by insurance can mean the difference between a quick recovery and no recovery at all.

  • New Improvements Dealing with Drug Addictions

Posted on August 10th, 2010 Joy No comments

Opium , heroin, marijuana and cocaine for centuries were used for medicinal purposes until high addiction resulted in devastating problems leading to society placing a ban on the substances. Drug addiction is today classed as a progressive disease, which is treatable but not curable. If the drug addiction is not treated right away, it may lead to serious harm to not only the user, but to the community at large.

Today, modern drug rehabilitation centers have been far more successful than in previous decades at treating drug addiction. Understanding of the obsessive and compulsive nature of the addiction through modern neurological studies has helped rehabs with treating the addict with better therapies by targeting the craving first, then with cognitive behavioral therapies after.

Drug addiction is only the symptom of a deep underlying problem that the drug abuser suffers with silently; hoping drugs or alcohol will either dull the emotional pain or physical pain only makes the issue worse. It can take years of sobriety in order for these initial troublesome issues to be dealt with and to eventually be overcome and it’s during this period where most recovering addicts relapse. Professionals in the rehabilitation industries now have a new understanding of the reason why most relapses occur within a month of sobriety and are better armed to help the recovering addict through this very difficult time.

The statistics for a recovering drug addict to stay sober are still grim, but new understandings of how the brain works has vastly improved and can have lasting results for an addict once they leave any institution dealing with recovery.
